Why should I build a custom home instead of buying a newly built house?
Great question! We call it the "cookie-cutter effect" where houses are built by a formula. In the rare occasion you do get to pick something, selections are limited to A, B, or C. When you build custom, you get exactly what YOU want—not what a developer thinks you want.
Doesn't it cost a lot more to build a custom home from scratch?
Not necessarily! Most existing new houses have marketing budgets and predetermined interest payments figured in and passed on to the buyer. We can usually build the same quality house for the same price or even less—but with your exact specifications.
Isn't building a custom home really complicated and stressful?
That's what we're here for! We handle all the permitting, sub-contractors, scheduling, site prep, inspections, and any issues that arise so the job runs like a well-oiled machine. We do all the hard stuff so you can focus on the fun stuff—choosing finishes and designing your dream home!
How much does it cost per square foot to build a custom home?
This is one of our most common questions, and it's difficult to answer with a single number! For example, a house with a complex roof costs more per square foot than the same size house with a simple roof. Extensive wrap-around porches will cost more than the same sized house without them. And then there are all the different finish levels to consider!
Don't trust a simple square foot number. Send us a rough plan and some of your preferred finishes, and we'll have a ballpark price for you in about a week—no obligations. As a fully custom builder, we prefer to talk with you about what you want in a home before we start throwing numbers around!
Can we use our own house plans, or do we have to use yours?
Either one works! We do, however, need to start with a set of plans—they're the backbone of every project and critical to accurate pricing. We have many plans in-house and work hand-in-hand with a draftsman who can show you hundreds of options or turn your own drawings into a full-scale plan set. Even a simple plan from the internet or a magazine is usually enough for a preliminary ballpark estimate.
Can you build on a lot that we already own?
Absolutely! We'll do a free site evaluation to go over your options and identify any potential obstacles. We can usually determine what utilities are available at that time as well. If you don't have a lot yet, we can help you find one!
